Day 8 (cont): Arrive in Beaune We departed Paris and briefly stopped at a rest stop that had fresh fruit and a mini cafeteria which is much different than the rest stops in the US. We arrived in Beaune, France (Burgundy region) around 6pm and we were in awe of this small quaint town surrounded by a medieval wall. We were running a little late so after checking into our inn (Hotel des Ramparts) we ran over to our wine tasting at Cave des Cordeliers. |

We learned that French wine is picked by the region and named for that region or vineyard. The wine was tasty and the cellar was dark and romantic, I felt like I was in a movie. The gardens at ground level were beautiful. |
We were on our own for dinner and decided to eat at this amazing restaurant set in an underground wine cellar. We couldn't read the menu but lucked out with the nicest waiter in all of France. He explained everything on the menu the best he could. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir and both of us ordered from the 5 course pre-fixe menu. We tried duck roasted in duck fat, beef burgundy, and many other things that I couldn't even begin tell you what they were . It was fun to be adventurous and enjoy a typical 2.5 hour French meal. |

After dinner we got some amazing picture around Beaune at night. |

Day 9: Wake up in Beaune We met with the group to tour Hotel-Dieu which is a hospice built in 1443. Then we spent some time strolling through the large street market before heading on to Switzerland. |
