| Cape Cod Rail Trail |

Jake and I drove down to Dennis to the start of Rail Trail. Getting to the trail head was very easy. I drove by the parking lot the first time. A quick turn around in the next drive way and we parked. There's a bike shop next to the parking lot in case you've forgotten anything. I didn't see any bathrooms (port-a-potties) at the beginning of the trail. A quick change into cycling clothes and double check of the bikes and we were off. |

The trail is very well maintained. It's about 10' to 15' wide for the entire length of the system. |

My only complaint on the trail is that it doesn't follow the coast line. There's a section in Harwich that ends up near the water, Mostly small private beaches tho. |
Along the trail there are lots of pit stops. Many clam shacks, ice cream stands, and the like are spaced out along the trail, and well marked. |

Over all it was a great ride. The biggest 'hill' that we encountered was the rises for bridges. |

All the riders we saw were polite. Lots of families on the trail when we road. It was the standard fair of riders and bikes. Lots of trail-a-bikes and trailers, Upright cruisers, and Wallmart specials. Saw some Tandems and recumbents, and even saw a tandem recumbent!
We only encountered one rider who I'd categorize as rude, some meat head on a full suspension mountain bike flying down the trail.
The end is a little lack luster, half a mile away is the beach, and there didn't seem to be any stops at the end (no ice cream half way through :( ) But there is a port-a-potty! |

A great ride, perfect for Jakes longest ride to date. Next time i think Katie and I will do the Chatham leg of the trail to see what that's like. |
