Europe 2007 - Austria

Day 11 (cont): Arrive in Austria

On our way from Switzerland we stopped in a small town called Lindau, Germany for lunch. It was freezing and raining so needless to say we spent most of our time with part of our group in a restaurant. Jason partook in some German beer and bratwurst with some sour kraut. I got a little cheese spatzle. From there I shopped a little and then we were on our way to Reutte, Austria.

The town we arrived in was just outside of Reutte, Austria. Once getting settle I went down stair to grab a beer with the group and shortly after Jason joined us. We then ate dinner with the group at our hotel. There was a great salad bar and both of us got mushroom risotto.  After dinner some of the group shifted to the bar area. We had a blast and I made friends with and hugged an older gentleman or not so gentleman from Austria whom we nicknamed Herman. It was a fun night.

Day 12: Wake up in Austria

We took the short bus trip to Mad King Ludwig's Neuschwanstein Castle. It was about 25 minutes away and once we got there it was raining and cold. We took the bus up the castle and walked to the bridge to get a better view of the castle and a waterfall. It was amazing and very windy. The bridge seemed a little shady so once we got our photo opt we headed up to the castle.

We toured the Castle and were a little disappointed.  Although finished on the outside, only 17 of the 100 or so rooms were finished before his death at 41.  He lived here for only 6 months.  This is the castle that Walt Disney modeled Cinderella's castle after. We then went back to the hotel for lunch and had some lovely soup to warm up with. At this point we were supposed to luge down a mountain, but sadly due to rain we couldn't. Instead we ventured out to see a Bavarian rococo style church that sat in the middle of a meadow. It was worth the drive. From there we went back to the hotel to take a much needed nap and prepare for dinner.

Day 13: Wake up in Austria

The night before leaving we had a great buddy dinner, in which we introduced our buddies. We learned a lot about each other and at the end of the exchange a couple in our group (Marc & Rebecca) sang and played guitar. It was a great end to the evening. The next morning we woke up and headed for Italy on the longest bus ride of the trip. It was beautiful watching the scenery change.

I love the picture on the bus with the outside all blurred! And of course the shots of the rest of Austria are lovely as well. That castle is incredible on the outside sitting up there on top of a mountain. Thanks for sharing your trip!

Very curious about what program was used to make the bus picture B&W and Color.. Love it!

Actually that B&W / Color pic on the bus was not edited at all. It was taken like that using a setting on the camera that allows you to tell it what color you want represented and everything else is B&W.

We highly recommend the Canon SD800, that is what we used for all our pics. We were extremely impressed with the quality and features.

Great pics of Austria. We did a little of Austria, but mostly in Vienna, and then the trip by bus from Austria to Venice, Italy through the mountains, which was great. Will look out for your future tabblos of this trip.
