Calvin enjoyed stopping to admire the dramatic views ....
 
... and to try to throw rocks into the ocean.
 
Lightning McQueen came along for the ride.
 
Finn, at a mere 6 months, proved to be quite the road warrior.
 
We took an 11-mile detour into the Santa Lucia range along the old Highway 1 -- an unpaved road that passed through redwood groves and clung to the edges of the mountains.
 
Whoever owns El Sur Ranch really, really doesn't want anyone to step off the road.
 
Bixby Bridge, where we encountered a group of people scattering ashes into the mountains.
 
In Monterey, we spent a full morning at the aquarium.
