Fantastic pictures and characters from the parade. Can't find a favorite, they are all outstanding. GREAT photography

My favourite is the full shot of Jack Layton, Leader of the NDP. Best photo I've ever seen of him. Plus look at the background, that's the Princess right?

Just think, we could have been standing next to each other! Great pics, fun tabblo - good work. Shirl, I think you mean the "Empress"!

Good work Dar. I like the picture of the two dogs with their frilly collars on.

Thanks Anders, Shirl, Noreen and Mom! You're all too kind. I think this is one of the most difficult subject matters to do. Point, frame, and click, that's the only control I had. I see something wrong in every photo I have here, and I have a hundred and seventy more, most of which after uploading them to my computer I wondered what on earth I was shooting at. LOL. I have new respect for those who excel at this type of photography! So I've added this to the critique group hoping that I can get a few pointers on how to do it better next time.

Noreen, after I read your comment I scanned all the photos I had taken, and didn't recognize you in any. Too bad!; it would have been great to meet you in person! :)

TCG: This is a hard one to critique. I have a couple hundred pictures of Syracuse Pride and I haven't tabbloed them at least in part because of some of the same issues you mention. There is so much going on at Pride it's almost too much photographically - so much colour, so many interesting people - and when all is said and done (and uploaded) it all seems too confusing. I have a bit of that sense from your tabblo. It is very busy visually (but then so is Pride). I'm not sure what the answer is. Perhaps it is to select a few cropped close ups - which you have done successfully in several of the images - and put a bit more space around them. I really liked all of the pictures, but there is a crowded sense with the tabblo as a whole. I do like the picture of Layton a lot - he is a good looking man. C'mon you Canadians. Wouldn't he present a nicer image of your country than Harper? LOL

Great collection of pics of this colourful event. Nicely put together, and a very difficult subject to cover, as everything is so bright and busy here. You did a very good job though.

These are great candid fun shots. I have a mess of em from Denver, too, and everytime i sit down to edit, I get overwhelmed. I think yours are perfect.

Good job with capturing the FUN TIMES Pride events generate. Even the maids were smiling.
DVP said at 8:11 p.m. on Jul 10, 2007:
Don't get me started on Harper bashing Paul. :)~ This is a wonderful set. It's difficult in these situations to pick and chose what you're shooting and sometimes the best shots are unintentional. You've probably done the best thing you could do by shooting as many as 200 frames. It gives you the best opportunity to weed them down. I love the two maids on the balcony. :)
AliDar said at 12:58 a.m. on Jul 11, 2007:
Thanks everyone for your compliments and comments. :)
Umauma, that's always been my motto too!
Paul and Joan, I appreciate very much your constructive comments and I agree with you both, but I too don't see any way of getting around the busyness issue when presenting such a large amount of photos of such an event. Paul your suggestion of creating more space between the photos makes a lot of sense, but I will have to keep that in mind for the next time since there are just way too many photos here for me to start playing around with it now. Also I wouldn't want to lose that sense of busyness altogether, since that to me, is what a parade is like.
Pam I am flattered! :)
Jude and Destiny, I love the shot of the maids on the balcony too, ... but it would have been even better had I been able to nab the shot when the one wearing the orange glove was waving with her gloved hand!. She only seemed to wave when my camera was in-between shots!
... And oh yes, I was very impressed that Jack Layton, along with Carole James, (the leader of the provincial NDP party - the woman in orange in the car behind Jack) joined us in our celebration.

TCG: Oops, I am almost too late - it has been a busy day! I really don't have anything to add that has not been said already. In this sort of tabblo I like to see lots of variety, be it size of frame, close-up shots, group shots, human interest and so on. I think you successfully achieved all of that. It is not the sort of tabblo you can absorb all at once but it does record an event and that is what it is all about. I do agree with Paul's suggestion that you could pick a few or fewer special shots such as Jack Layton, the dogs, the maids, the frilly sleeve 'gal', the youth group, the balloons, the bikes and others and space them rather than having them all joined together. Each time I take another look at this tabblo I see something I hadn't noticed before and I like it. Good job, Dar!
AliDar said at 3:10 a.m. on Jul 11, 2007:
It's never too late for you to drop by Noreen, and I'm very glad you did! It seems I misunderstood a critical part of Paul's suggestions, the part about separating out a few of the more interesting shots, i.e.: "a few cropped close ups" and then creating more space around them, not around ALL of the photos, like how I had interpreted it. ... That makes much more sense! That, I think, would break up the rhythm and cause a pause now and then in all the chaos. Great idea; sorry it took the two different renditions of the same suggestion for me to understand it.

Thanks Tammy! ... Pride is definitly the time to show off our colours! :)

Great tabblo of a very colorful and loving group of people! Over here in Amsterdam (Holland), they will have the Gay Pride Amsterdam 2007 from 3 - 5 August!

Thanks for the compliment Loes, and for the link! We can't afford to travel any further than our car can take us, but it's lots of fun to share such things online! :)
