Fields of Gold

Verticle

Horizontal

Offset Square

I have a tendency to take multiple shots of the same scene, always looking for that ideal framing. In this case, I only shot 4 photographs at different exposures in order to get the yellow field to "POP" as much as possible, while not over-exposing the clouds, which I feel are an important feature of the photograph.

I cropped the photograph in post-processing to end up with these three compositions. Feedback gratefully accepted.

I take multiple shots of the same scene as well. Of these three, I like the Offset Square best.

Very nice scene. I look the clouds in the first two but I think the dark grass is nicer in the offset square. It is hard to strike just the right balance.

Like the others i take muli sop, I have found the bracket button on the camera..... I am glad i am not paying for film development.

I like offset square but as a further option I would have taken the offsett square and cropped 25% of the bottom and about 30% of the top. this would have given a sense of width (I think)

My favorite is the offset square. It's more appealing to my eyes.

I actually think the horizontal gives a better perspective. A feeling of vastness. But might crop either the sky or the field to allow for a thirds approach, instead of it being divided in half.

I like the three pictures but the last one I think the same as Brian if you cropped it that it will give a sense of width~

I like the last one because it gives the most sense of width.

I like them all, a great shot, perfect exposed. When it come to cropping the second Horizontal, just feel right to me, even compared with the changed last one. GREAT JOB!!

TCG: Oh I don't know; ... I've looked at these photos over and over again, and I can't decide between the 'Horizontal' and the 'Offset Square. Even though I agree that the cropping you've done based on the critiques gives a sense of width, I think it loses the bigness of the sky, and that is what I've been told is the overall impression of the prairies. And while I like the track being offset to the right like that, for some reason that version doesn't seem to have the same 'pull' to the bright clouds in the background as the 'Horizontal' one does. ...Beautiful shot regardless of the version - definitly a field of gold! :)

My favorite is the offset square. I also take several pictures just say I can get one that just pops. What a beautiful scene. And I agree about the clouds, they add so much to a picture. Most people don't even think about that. It's way better than just a blue sky.

It is very difficult to choose . I see that you cropped but now I think that the horizontal gives the most sense of width, beautiful field of gold~

The off-set square is perfect, the rule of thirds always makes a scene like this more interesting. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds) The road is such a natural invitation into the picture and there is more of it in the square version. The exposure in the 3rd one also gives the sky more depth and texture.
