Years ago I knew a cartoonist and he, like most cartoonists, drew hands with only 4 fingers - 3 fingers and a thumb. He didn't have an explanation other than 5 fingered hands just didn't look "right" in cartoons.

Certainly comparable to the giant foot sculpture that's in my Manhattan-III tabblo, which I assume earned a healthy commission. But even with opposed thumbs cartoonists seem to often draw hands with only 3 fingers.

I'm not taking it as a criticism (actually i welcome critiques :P) I was just saying that I really find it hard to draw hands.. that's why i just draw a circle for Teru.. haha... and i never tho' of the 3 fingers rule of most cartonnists until u pointed it out and i find it really interesting. :)

I just took a look at your Simpson's tabblo and each character has only 3 fingers and a thumb and the Simpsons came about some 20 years after my conversation with a cartoonist. Now that I think of it I once photographed Chuck Jones - the Bugs Bunny cartoonist.
