My Top Ten - Joan

Above: This was taken at Niagara Falls of the Maid of the Mist tour boat.

These are not necessarily the 'best', but more a selection of the ones that I like.

I really wouldn't know what were the best...LOL...

Below: This one was shot at Montmorency Falls near Quebec City. These falls are higher than Niagara, but not as wide. In winter they are particularly beautiful.  I was standing  quite a long way from this high hill of snow and ice, which is formed by spray from the falls, and the wind whirling snow into a peak. It is quite a climb to the top and two of our grandchildren are standing in the centre of the group. I was using a Canon S1 IS camera and the zoom at it's full 10X setting.

The above photo was taken at the top of Mount Stanserhorn near Lucerne, Switzerland.

Very good pictures. I especially like the one of Niagra Falls through the fence.

Beautiful "postcard" images. The last one looks like an impressionist painting.

That is Niagara Falls? Wow, what a great photo! I kept looking and looking at it, trying to figure out what it was of and where it was taken from. Talk about keeping the interest of the viewer! The next on I love is #3: I am consumed with curiousity about where that was taken.

Hollyridger said at 11:18 p.m. on Jul 18, 2007:
Joan, these are all great as everybody agrees, of course. I particularly like the fourth fron the bottom, the mountain scene but the Niagara Falls shot is super as is the third from the top. It really is extremely difficult choosing one's favourites, isn't it? I think it is a really good exercise because one learns so much from studying others' photos. Good job!

Awesome pics, Joan!! Great tabblo.
AliDar said at 2:52 a.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
Wow, these are all great, but some of them are amazing! The top two are very cool ways to frame your subject within another element of the photo, very creative! and the third of the climbers is simply spectacular! I love your view point in that shot, and that one red coat just pulls you in! ... And you know, I've taken that exact shot of the snow covered street at night from my front yard too, ... same angle and everything, ... except mine didn't turn out half as good as yours! Great stuff Joan! :)

The first two and the purple clouds are my favorite. You're a superb photographer.
Anjad said at 5:25 a.m. on Jul 19, 2007:

Thanks so much for all the nice comments folks. I will probably change some of these in time, whenever I get to take or find amongst my postings any other photos which are nice enough to use.
Nmat - the photo of Niagara Falls (1st one), is taken just at the side of the falls, from the viewing area alongisde the sidewalk where there is a metal fence in the stone wall. The other Falls photo in winter is taken at Montmorency, I have added a note about that.
AliDar - the street scene was not a spectacular shot by any means, it was improved by my using a small program to smooth it - I think it was NeatImage which is free on line. I would have to look back at my tabblo where I did several night scenes as that is where I described what I had done.

Thanks everyone for pointing out your favourites. Happy Photographing!!!

Like I said in my comment on my top, you have a knack for imparting a sense of fun, sharing, and adventure in your photos

AliDar said at 2:34 a.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
... So are you saying that the third shot down from the top is Niagara Falls... Frozen!? WOW! I thought it was in the mountains somewhere! Amazing!
JoanW said at 12:07 p.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
......No Ali, I said that the picture below (which is the 3rd one), is Montmorency Falls, higher, but not as wide as Niagara. Mind you Niagara does freeze over in the winter, but I have never been there in the winter time to see it. Montmorency is much less commercialized and very natural. The best part about Montmorency in the winter is that the river freezes enough for p eople to walk out on and go right below the falls, which I don't believe is possible in Niagara as the river flows too rapidly, and doesn't freeze enough, and also it would be a very steep climb down to the river in Niagara as it is basically in a gorge. Montmorency falls from a high ridge down to a flatter level where the river is. You can see what it looks like overall if you look at my Tabblo on Montmorency Falls. Thanks for your comments.
