Nine Today

Couldn't do it...tried, but it got the best of me.  As I was reviewing the last eleven months of my Tabblo history, I saw a lot of photos I liked, but I kept thinking; are they good?  Are they in my top ten?  What is good, anyway?  Is it the subject?  Is it the quality of the photograph?  Is it the emotion it evokes while being viewed?  Is it because it was composed, exposed, cropped, framed, editied, and presented well I leave it up to you, my Tabblo audience, to decide, and induge me for not being able to stop at ten.

They are great.
Pkeener said at 7:04 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
Thank you Tish, you know, i really am not sure how great my photos are! I love to make Tabblos, and I think my photos do OK in this format, but, I am constantly humbled by the truly great photographs I see on Tabblo.

i tried and i couldn't do it either :P i think these are all great, and u r especially good at capturing emotions!
JoanW said at 7:38 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
These are excellent, what I really like about your photos is your ability to caputre feelings. The portraits are SO good, and I also love the crops done on a few of them (the red dess one and the man and child). It's because it's something that I just cannot seem to do in photography, so admire your skills. Very, very few of my photos are of people, so I am enjoying these.
Wlk68 said at 7:44 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
I would be proud to call any of these amazing shots my own.
Floridamolle said at 7:46 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
Well I must say that it looked to like as you could do it. Your pictures always mean something, I don't think you publish other pictures. I think that is so great, and I always love your great photography!!! High quality photography.
I have just one thing......is this not 12 pics? If I not got something wrong in my counting. And if I am right it means that you have to figure out two more to go, as the rule is 10 :-(
Pkeener said at 7:58 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
Hey Anders! Go read the last line in my text! LOL. It's hard to be a group manager...Like on my Twofer TUESDAY group, I have to let the Monday and Wednesday entries slide. ;)). Anyway, thank you for the very nice comments on my work. I had a line in the text that said "Sorry, Anders" but it made the box too long and I got all frustrated, and well, you know how it goes on Tabbolo...

Wendy, coming from you, that is quite a compliment.
Joan, and very few of my photos are of beautiful places, buildings, and scenery.

Leftofcenter said at 8:06 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
you did it, all 12 of them and all the ones you didn't publish here. My favorites are the 2 dresses of course, white and red.
Peggysuew said at 8:17 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
i don't think i could EVER pick a favorite - even ten or twenty - of all your photos my dear sister...maybe because i treasure them ALL and think they are ALL my favorites :) :)
Brian_Doyle said at 8:20 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
The feeling of people and the suggestion of that something extra or just beyond the edge is awesome. (And in all my comments to Tabblos that is the first time I have used that word - Awesome) . With your text comment, all the comments are true. Beauty is something that has reached a state that if you add or take away something it is no longer beautiful. Which two do you remove and keep tha beauty. This top ten makes me feel good and reminds me to never give up and aways dream. Thank you for your words and pictures.
Nmat said at 8:25 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
So it is a Delightful, Delicious Dozen, and we are thrilled that you chose them. They are all terrific, each different and meaningful in its own way. I don't remember the first shot -- it is very dramatic!
Standing002 said at 8:29 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
I could never stop at ten best. It would be the most difficult thing me to do for my self. I can't do it for you either. Each photo says so much.
ElZorroTOX said at 8:43 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
Very good choices indeed.
LatentE said at 9:01 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
An excellent series. Certainly one to be proud of. I think a little introspective but how not to be when having to pick one favorites from among many favored. They are fleeting glimpses of life. Fleeting but telling.
Eduardo.affonso said at 9:15 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
I totally agree with your choice. Your "top 12" show the wide range of your multiple talents, and these are probably the ones I'd pick if I had to coordinate an exhibition of your work. My fave of all is "Vacuous" (it's a still, not a movie, but I can almost feel the lady's breath, her hand trembling, one second before the first touch).
DVP said at 9:28 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
Amy remains one of my favorites. You have such a keen photographic eye Pam, you keep me humble.
Pkeener said at 9:34 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
I am enjoying all your comments, and some of you know me enough to know I have a difficult time with deciding on top anythings, and you also know I like to stir things up. So I put up 12, I actually had 21 on the tabblo at one time..I don't even know if these are top anything, but today they were.
OscarDaniel said at 10:30 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
The twelve are top Pamela!! your portraits are amazing!! I love all your tabblo!!
Jigs said at 10:45 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
You know what they say, Pam, you are your worst critic! ;) All I know is I find ALL your photographs superb! Not just for the pure aesthetics of the shots... not just for the power of the emotions each one evokes in me... but also because you have the courage of your emotions and art that communicates itself so beautifully across the world's bandwidth and reaches out to all who see what you saw in those moments. Did I make sense? Don't stop at 10... or 12... or 21... As far as I'm concerned, you will always top yourself! I look forward to more of your brilliant shots. :)
Love2laugh said at 11:13 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
I would not have been able to stop at 10 on yours either. :) You have TOOOOO many exceptional pics. Did you make this tabblo on TUESDAY ??? hahahahahah .... Just messing with you .... !!! Couldn't resist.
Pkeener said at 11:37 p.m. on Jul 19, 2007:
Touche Sheila! ;0 I am waiting for yours, or did I miss it?? Thank you very much.

Jigs, I am blushing. If my photographs somehow find a way to speak and touch others, then I feel like I have my cake and am eating it, too. Just taking them is enough to make me happy. Your words are always so poignant and poetic.

Thankyou Oscar, very much.

Eduardo, I would be honored to have you coordinate a show for me in Dreamland! What shall we wear?

Destiny, you know how I feel about your work

Latent You always tell it well and your photos are in a class of their own.

Nancy, Peace. That first shot is actually a sculpture lying face down in a reflcetion pool. I really lucked out with that one.

Brian, hey wild man from Down undah! Great discussion. Thank you.

Leftie and Peg, my great supportive sistah's, love ya.

Rich..so good to see you on a regular basis. Your comments are much appreciated.
AliDar said at 12:55 a.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
Okay I'll bite! <grin> Six of these twelve I would be sad to see you remove if you decided to cull them done to ten. In order of appearance: 'Liberte de Expression', 'Saturday Night', 'SKB', 'Two Sweet' ( my personal favourite!), 'Vacuous', and 'Next Stop'. For me, all of these have a number of the criteria you mention above when you were questioning how to judge a good photo, but I think 'Two Sweet' has it all - One of the best photos I've seen on tabblo! A Great dozen! <grin>
Flinkfar said at 3:45 a.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
WOW. As far as i'm concerned the "10 pictures limit" is just a suggestion.
The thing that strikes me when i go through your pictures, is your ability to get the lightning just perfect every time. ( not to mention cropping, editing etc. etc.)
Your portraits are very intimate, my fave is "two sweet". Telling a story in one picture - excellent.
Fredzee said at 4:51 a.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
Pam, this is my fave tabblo and can't choose one picture in it. I think you are a truly great photographer, cause your photos have quality AND emotions, and sometimes more ! and you know that limits are there to be exceeded ! ThankU
Anjad said at 5:39 a.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
Pam, they are all great! I can understand you're having troubles picking your ten most favorite shots, you have so many good pictures! Excellent tabblo!
UrbanParadoxes said at 10:18 a.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
Neither could I ... good choices you made, though.
Bxrgirl27 said at 10:35 a.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
I did the same thing at first - had more than ten and had to start to whittle it down. But the best part is that you can go in and edit your tabblo ten as often as you want - which I dig- b/c I have new faves all the time - especially depending on the mood I'm in that day. These are all by far some of your best - if I had to choose it'd be the black and white picture of Amy - there's a lot of intensity in that quiet reflective photo.
DEE-Trow said at 10:44 a.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
Pam, choosing 10 is such a challenge. I only went through some of the pictures I took in 2007. It was just a daunting task to go through them all. I know there are more that I love but I could see that it would be overwhelming to look at all my pictures. But it also makes me proud of myself that I have so many favorites and that I have come such a long ways in the year I have been with Tabblo. Tabblo has brought out the best in me and that makes me happy. I look forward to taking many more pictures that will become my new favorites. I agree with everything you said in your Tabblo. I love your pictures. You have so many fantastic ones to choose from!
Pkeener said at 11:23 a.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
Hey! I read the Forum and now I get it. Everybody else had the same feelings as I did, I just went and made my Tabblo without thinking first. I really love your opionions, thoughts, and praise. Art is subjective, right. It rerally shows up here. I have the great crtique by Dar, and it is so amusing to me that Brian chose two photos to eliminate, that Dar would keep. He suggested removing Saturday Night (which, I actually think is one of my best, ever) and Next Stop Concourse A. It was resized for this Tabblo and lost some effect, but I am attached to it..

The thing that strikes me is how cool it is to view all of your Top Tens. I remember most of the photos! I also love to see how we have all grown in our photography and our community.
TeresaAnn said at 12:23 p.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
Great variety of photos.
JuDeck said at 1:13 p.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
Pam, what I know is that I ALWAYS look forward to looking at your Tabblos. You bring a much different perspective of what's out there and share it here with us. I say be the rebel with 12, 18, Thursday or Tabbloday. These are absolutly beautiful shots....thanks! I have to go look for your expression tabblo now...later gator.
AliDar said at 2:19 p.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
Art is subjective, and there is no accounting for personal taste. What pulls one persons crank, doesn't necessarily pull another's (gawd, I feel a bit like I'm using a book on saying for reference here! <grin> ... but I think that's the thing, it's gotta pull a crank, whether it's pleasure in the beauty of it, showing something in a different light, making you think, or causing an emotional reaction. It's the ability of the photographer, or artist to capture these elements, and show them to us so that we 'get it' that makes something art. In my opinion the technical elements are simply the tools we use to convey these things, and I think a technically good shot without that 'human element' of the photographer are dry and boring. None of your photos here, however are like that, and the eight (now eight because after looking at them once more I have to add the too of Amy) that I've chosen I definitely get! :)
Decoy said at 2:40 p.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
I really like your pictures. You have a presence that's amazing. You don't need big scenerys - you're blessed! :)
I think my favourites among yours will change with my mood, because they speak to me in different ways - but today i'll pick Liberte' (I think I allways will pick that one...), Vacuous and Two sweet.. In the last one I think it have that peacefullness as a result of the closed eyes. They are all great photos! Good work of you, and I'm looking forward to see more! :)
Decoy said at 2:41 p.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
ah, I lika next stop a lot too! :)
Cruising said at 9:41 p.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
I love em... all your photos are just winners!
Pkeener said at 11:19 p.m. on Jul 20, 2007:
Bob..thank you, old friend. Hi Decoy and welcome again, I so appreciate your words. Jude, and Dar, your input is really valuable. I removed one photo, and I might change it agin in a few days. Or just wait for 10 more. That's what's cool about this group. Anders did a great thing creating this, and he "gets" it, because he is indeed, an artist. I think pulling the crank is a perfect term, Dar!
Zippywinds said at 4:28 p.m. on Jul 22, 2007:

LatentE said at 2:47 p.m. on Aug 2, 2007:
Excellent images. I think Tabblo has reformatted a couple of your images though. The one with the two girls has one of them cropped out.
UrbanParadoxes said at 2:54 p.m. on Aug 2, 2007:
On a hot, humid day like this, I'll take the ice cream, thank you. Pam I don't know that I could pick my ten favorites of your work. I do love the kids though ... there smiles.
Engelgrafik said at 3:18 p.m. on Aug 2, 2007:
Great images. Each one stands on its own!
Decoy said at 3:23 p.m. on Aug 2, 2007:
The first thing I thought was.. "-but ahhh, where's the one of the jumping girls!?!?!" I've never seen your photos before, but that one was a special one.. and I miss it! Sorry to say! :) Now I'm kind of smiling in a friendly way because I don't give you the "answer" you want? :) Love your photos, but I miss one of them!
John98 said at 3:47 p.m. on Aug 2, 2007:
All of those you mention are valid criteria; I like "the degree of emotion a photo evokes" as the single best criterion if we can select just one. I like all your work. I love the photos of the mature bearded man with the child, the young woman with her fingers to her face, the blond girl in the blue hat.
Chiloedream said at 4:19 p.m. on Aug 2, 2007:

Hi Latent, yes, I fixed it. Tabblo seemed to have a bug today..Just an update, friends..Felt bad about having 11..Thank you jeff! Love to see your face on my Tabblos! Annelies, I love that one too, but couldn't make it hold..I'll add it back soon, and thanks for your visit and support. Hey, Anna! Funny you should mention that one..It is going to be in a Tabblo of it's own, soon...had it in here today, and got inspired.. John, I appreciate your input..the young woman is my daughter Amy! And that little girl in the blue hat is also Amy , about 20 years ago, taken with my Canon F1..remember film?? Thierry, as your photos do to my heart. Bises. Frank, i'll order one for each of us..it's the best ice cream in Colorado.
