This is a lovely picture. Those wings sparkling on the bee are great! And I love the colors us used for this tabblo.

What a great shot Doreen, perfect exposure and pin sharp, it shows the detail in the petals and the bee perfectly, the only thing that could possibly bring it down just a tiny bit is that I find the seed pod in the bottom right just slightly distracting, but you could'nt possibly do anything about it at the time as the bee would have just flown away and then you would have lost the picture, but it definately does'nt spoil it, very well done indeed.. Ray.

Fantastic shot!

wow...this is really cool Doreen...flower color is such a nice contrast to the grass....and the shadows all add to it...super job

The light glinting off the bee's wings is awesome. I actually like the funky pod in the bottom right hand corner. Technically, Ray is right and it is sorta distracting but I still think it's cool.

tabblo critique: i am fascinated by this pic. i love the play of shadows on the flower petals. i would have to say that's my favorite part of this pic. i really like the effect the unopened flower bud has in the right foreground. it's not distracting but it adds variety: round as opposed to linear, brighter than the other greens... like a little living combination of the flower and the grass blades... i really love how the bee is IN the picture but is not stealing all the attention... beautiful detail on the little creature! you even got his shadow captured on the flower. great title, fantastic color choice... the only distraction is the... umm... is that a butterfly? in the foreground... bright white object... but it's not that big of a problem to be honest. it may even be an asset now that i think about how it brings out the contrast in the center of flower bud.

one other thing i also noticed is the unique tone/texture of your photo. it has almost an old discovery channel documentary type feel... or like an old Disney nature program. it's almost a 35mm type feel. do you know what i mean? this is definitely one for my favorites list!

Re- what Applegirllayla wrote.. "i really like the effect the unopened flower bud has in the right foreground. it's not distracting but it adds variety:".. I thought someone would like it but you have to think about the main subject in a close up picture like this, and if there is anything ditracting a persons eyes from it then it is not usually a good thing..

the unopened bud is what attracts me most here (i think it has to do with the glaring light). i would rather it is the focus of this photo than the pink flower. if not, it should be eliminated just to emphasize the pink flower & the bee. for me, the 3 subjects makes the picture too "heavy". however, "wow-wise", this is really a great set, Doreen. love & fave it!!!

WOW! To say I was pleasantly surprised when opened this tabblo is an understatement! I don't think there is anything more that I can teach you, except maybe to help you recognize what you all ready can do. (BEAMING! :)

Tabblo critique group: Such a beautiful and joyous explosion of colour, texture, and shapes! This is why we plant a garden, and this tabblo captures this so well. I don't think a photograph has to have one subject, or one focal point. The subject can be all that is within the frame. I find an image more dynamic if there are elements in it that move your eye through it, like how the circular shapes of the flower center, the bumblebee, and the unopened flower bud, does. I also love the surrounding texture of the leaves, and how the shadow of some of these leaves on the flower petals draws your attention back to the flower, ... the creases on the petals then pulls you back in to the center of the flower, and then you start the journey all over again.

I agree with the others about how the little white petals or butterfly wing tips are out of place and a bit distracting, but except for doctoring them out in photoshop there is nothing you can do about them now, and probably will never be able to have full control over such things showing up in your photos, no matter how educated you become about how undesirable they are.

Ok, back in daughter mode: ... I'm just tickled pink about this Mom! Great job! (... just can't stop beaming! :D )

The little white thingy is another Cosmos. The planter is so full of flowers, it is almost impossible to separate just one for a photo, and the buds, well they are everywhere. I cannot destroy a potential flower by snipping off its bud. And although it may discract from the bee or flower, it is indeed part of my arrangement and photo. Keep the comments coming, I am learning more and more. When I see something like this on another tabblo, I stop there for awhile and ponder as to what it is, most times, it remains a mystery.

I have just tried to upload another cropped picture, but for some reason, Picasa will not upload it again.

I'm not one to critique photos, I just know what I like and don't like, and I like this. It's lovely! The bee is actually cute and the cosmos is beautiful. Isn't digital photography fun?! :)
Tishfish said at 11:40 a.m. on Jul 29, 2007:
Yes it is fun especially after I learn how to use it.

TCG: The composition here is really quite pleasing. I enjoy the balance between the centre and the lower right of the photo. You have done well with the framing. I must admit I didn't even see the white at the bottom until it was pointed out. If anybody were to look at this with a grid, they would see that you've captured a classic diagonal line of sight. Well done.

The only room for improvement I would add is that this photo is showing a high degree of digital noise. Additionally, there is a degree of flatness to the shadows that makes the photo look overexposed. I would suspect you were shooting at ISO 400 or above. Digital noise is a classic problem with smaller point and shoot cameras, so you may not even be able to control it. Otherwise, as a pretty picture - this is wonderful.

Destiny, I have no idea what you just said. This is all latin to me, all I do is point and shoot when the opportunity arises, a delay would mean the moment is gone.

It's my favorite thing to photograph. Sometimes, I don't do them justice, but I love it.
