Never Say A Commonplace Thing - Letters to Jack

Part of the "On The Road" scroll exhibit at the Lowell National Historical Site is a small table, an old Royal Typewriter,  a stack of note paper, and pencils where people can write whatever they like and tack it up on a corkboard.

The title for the exhibit station is "Never Say A Commonplace Thing."  Many of the notes that are tacked up are ones of admiration and appreciation, which as I gather from reading about Jack, Kerouac would have felt ambivalent about.  Nonetheless - they are touching public/private notes to an artist  now gone beyond.

There is one note that I think Jack would have approved of wholeheartedly -  it's the 8th one down, the one about 'Shady J' and pretty and helpful 'K'  - "Smells in here kinda."

Very interesting Tabblo! May I ask more about what this exhibit was about?

Thank you Bo_bo - the exhibit is about Jack Kerouac's life as well as the 120 foot long original manuscript of On the Road. You can see lots more about the exhibit at this link -

Roy, this is a wonderful tabblo you've put together here. When I read "smells in here kinda," I was kind of smelling that Royal typewriter. I like the idea for the exhibit, and the way you captured the heart of it to share.

This is cool. I would have loved to line up and try to use that Royal typewriter.

This is terrific, Roy. I saw this in Denver last year..and, the weird thing is..I am listening to On the Road on CD. It's not as good as the book..the way you designed this Tabblo is exceptional work.
