......................Be An Organ Donor......................

The following is an article written by my brave and cherished sister Debbie.

As a recent recipient of a new heart (and a Registered Nurse for nearly 30 years), she has become a fervent supporter and worker for the cause of promoting organ donation awareness.

Please read her story and if you have not made arrangements to be an organ donor, think about it SERIOUSLY today.

It truly is the gift of life.

Patty, my wonderful sister. You are so thoughtful to have put out my story. I wrote it quickly for a little newsltter, thus the "Reader's Digest " condensed version. Has some medical terms some may not know. I am glad it touched you, and may make others think of the greatest, most unselfish act we humans can do for one another.I KNOW i will meet my donor "sister" one day, give her a BIG hug, and thank her in person for my life. She is free, as am I , to finish my task here. To all who read...thanks! Deb :) (Her sister)

Patty, you have an amazing sister! Even on her worst days (and she had many) Deb ALWAYS remained grateful for so many things in life. God blessed her gratefulness with a gift He knew she would treasure and care for. She is a wonderful friend and a hero....Mary M.

Thanks Mary and all who commented. I know that Debbie was intended to do something with this gift she has been given. She does too. God knew that she would use her new sister's heart well. I also saw her at some of her low points. She tried so hard not to complain. there were several occasions when all we could do was cry together. I had an idea of what she was thinking but never dared to ask for fear I'd hear out loud what was on her mind. I have learned so much from her and her sojourn. Happy four month rebirthday, Deb. Four months with an undiseased heart and no signs of rejection. I thank God, her donor and Deb's medical team for this gift. I still marvel that she has no limitations anymore! She is a shining example to me and a hero as well. Must be our Quaker blood....but BOY does her light shine!

Patty... We are so lucky to have each other. Through all our struggles, I for one ALWAYS know I have true friends in my sisters. Deb is an amazing person. I don't know how many of us would have gotten through what she has gone through. Maybe thats the lesson. If we don't give up... then anything is possible. I love youDeb and Patty.
