STUDEBAKER

Studebaker, was a United States wagon and automobile manufacturer based in South Bend, Indiana. Originally, the company was a producer of industrial mining wagons, founded in 1852 and incorporated in 1868[1] under the name of the Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Company. While Studebaker entered the automotive business in 1902 with electric vehicles and 1904 with gasoline vehicles, it partnered with other builders of gasoline-powered vehicles until 1911. In 1913, Studebaker introduced the first gasoline-powered automobiles under its own “Studebaker” brand name. Acquired in 1954 by Packard Motors Company of Detroit, Michigan, Studebaker was a division of the Studebaker Packard Corporation from 1957 to 1962. In 1962, it reverted to its previous name, the Studebaker Corporation. While the company left the automobile business in 1966, Studebaker survived as an independent closed investment firm until 1967 when it merged with Worthington to become Studebaker-Worthington Corp.

Thanks for the memories!! I drove many of those vehicles, in my youth! Great pictures!

Thanks Terry. I can remember many times hearing Dad talk about these vehicles. I know they bring back memories for many people, and though I was born in 58 so don't really remember them ... I do love looking at them when I find them and imagining life back then. :)

I don't know much about Studebakers either, Oscar. That's why I went on line to look for info on them, since I had found this car place that had some old ones.

Where do you find such great subjects? I just love these shots. Not only great shots full of color, but a great choice of format colors too.

Wendy - Thanks.. it's one of those places I drove by a few times before I noticed it...LOL

Frank - This old place is along the freeway going into the town of Weatherford where I get my hair cut. There are a few more cars I took pics of at this place, but I don't think they are studebakers, so I will make a tabblo of them by themselves. I was looking on line last night to see if they said they were studebakers ... but don't think they are. One I can not even find the name of... hahahahaha... but I'll do another tabblo with the other cars today. I'm thrilled people enjoy them though. :) Makes it worth tromping through the mud to look at them. :)

Annelies - I went on line to get some of the history. Having grown up near Detroit I could see even more why my Dad talked about them.

Pat - Apparently they still drive both of these trucks. (or have in the past few years) The writing on the side of the one would be pretty current. So I found them fascinating.

Thank you Shampoo - Just a bit of history for those that might remember such a great means of transportation. I wish they had more of the Studebaker cars ... but still the trucks were fun to take pics of. I loved the HEADLIGHTS. Almost looked like they had EYE LIDS on them. :)

Thanks Zippy. I imagine they can be restored. It would take a lot of work, but sure would love to see what they could do with them. :)

Jude - I was shocked that there was a find like this too. I have passed this place many times and NEVER noticed it was a STUDEBAKER place. I actually just thought I'd take some pictures of the old rusted out vehicles when I noticed the sign... hahahaha....

Anna - Thanks so much.

WOW!! I don't know what is more impressive, your Studebaker knowledge :-) Love both. Great work again. You know after the fire ant time I went to Sweden for a long time, I had a neighbor who had a Studebaker, a not so common brand in Sweden.
Love2laugh said at 9:01 a.m. on Aug 26, 2007:
Anders - my knowledge of this came from the net. :) I didn't know it before I read it on the net. You had a neighbor who owned a Studebaker? When I was on line looking at some of the old cars, I actually wished I owned one. They were cool looking.

Very nice! Great old cars and history. Love the colors.

Thanks Tammy. I guess it was Dad's talking about the studebaker that made me have to stop and take a closer look myself.

Thanks Teresa. I thought it was fun checking these out.
