What a great opportunity to see bears. How close did you get to these animals?

The blackbear (last pictures) crossed the road 25 meter in front of us. I stopped at a turnout and manage to take a shot when it jumped into the river. The Grizzly (top pictures) was 200 yards away. Only time we were kinda nervous becuase we didnt have anywhere to run if he had approached us. The middle pictures with mother and cubs we where on the road close to the car so we could have left the aera fast if she was disturbed by us.

The zoom up to 500m ( =750 mm because of 1,5 x digital effect) and software digital zooming on the 10 Mb picture helps to get closer. The lens is heavy but we are very pleased with it. Every picture is handheld and Sony A100 has built in anti-shake (2-3 stops)
