England & Switzerland Part I

This restaurant in Zurich is called Kerala.  Named after Indian state of Kerala (my wife's birth place), this restaurant serves traditional south Indian dishes.  This restaurant is considered to be one of the elegant and expensive ("it will cost you 500 SF for four people!", according to a friend) indian restaraunts.  It doesnt look that elegant from outside though.

Sreyah is  enjoying Movenpick ice cream.  We all did enjoy Movenpick.  They have different flavors, but dont try Mango+passion fruit flavor which turned out to be very sour.  My personal favorite...Pistachio!

Swans in Lake Zurich (Zurich see).

This picture is taken near Bahnhof quai.  This land mark is either a church or part of train station, I am not sure.

Alpine view.  Boy, there is plenty of alpine views. Duh!...

On our way to interlaken, we stopped by a road side restaraunt, below which lies a beautiful valley, that makes a scene for a picture post card.  Abhayah, Suresh and Ponna.  Sreyah took this picture.

Same place.  Notice the church in the background.  Its probably about 3-4 miles away.

This is that restaraunt and motel.  (Swiss dont call these motels though)

Alpine view!

Sreyah and Abhu near Zurich see. Yeah, the lake.

Tour boat in Zurich see.  No, we didnt go on tour boat.  No time at all.

A Swiss duck.  I wonder what  it tastes like?

A swiss castle, picture taken from the lake.

Abhayah fine tuning her sister's camera.

A swan on the lake of Zurich.

I dont know what the story behind this naked boy with bird.  Sorry, didnt have time to read it.

In Murren. (for simplicity the Umlauts are omitted, Umlaut is that double dot on the vowel).   Ponna liked the way timber was used for fountains and flower beds.

Alpine view.  taken from Murren.

Sleepy village of Murren.  Ponna had to literally drag me off this place, because I didnt want to leave.

Alpine view.  From Murren.

Well, you guessed it right.  Alpine view.

Interlaken-Bonigen where we stayed.  Jungfrau is some where behind these mountains.  This picture is taken from the apartment where we stayed.

Dont you love that cow?

The yellow bus behind Ponna is mail bus.  These buses also take passengers.

This is in a village called Lauterbrunnen.  The streets are so narrow, it doesnt look like there is room for two lanes of cars.  But trust me, there is enough room.

In the background you can see the train.   We decided to drive.  Train fares are horrendous.  If four people are travelling, it saves a lot of money when you drive.

Trummelbach falls.  These falls are embedded in the hills.  You go there by a lift and climb a few steps to see these forceful falls.

Trummelbach falls. Entrance.

They were running a special for Indians.  Almost half of India was there at that time.

This is a view of falls.  The force can generate enough power to light up whole town of Beaumont, Texas (our home town)

Valley, view from top of the mountain near the falls.

Inside the cable car, on our way to Murren.

Gorgeous water falls.

Gorgeous water falls II

Gimmelwald.  I mistook this for Grindelwald, another elegant resort.  It took me a little while to realise my mistake.

Entrance to Murren.  Taken from cable car.

Homeowners in Murren.  Work never stops even when tourists are gawking.

Ponna in Murren.

This is a chinese restaraunt where we were about to eat.  We were told, the chef went shopping for groceries, so we could only get spring rolls!  We left in a hurry.

Tube station in Acton Town, London.

National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, England.

The brig, Cutty Sark.  Admission fee was five pounds.  So Ponna decided not to go in.

Look at that gorgeous brig.  I never been on one of those offshore or on land.  I was glad I could be on board the Cutty Sark.

Dockland Light Rail (DLR) by which we went to Greenwich.  Day ticket from 9:00am-next morning 4:00am was 7.50 pounds.  It was a great deal I must say.

Tower of London shop.  Buying souvenirs is not one of our skills.

Ditto.

Tower Bridge, taken from Tower of London.  The guy in the picture is Robby our brother in law.

Entrance to the Tower of London.   Dont expect a skyscraper.  The fortress is more like it.  That too was closed almost 75% (not accessible)

Ravens in the Tower of London.  If the ravens fly away, English empire falls.  So the raven keeper clips their wings so that they wont fly away.  Such BS story.. You would wonder how English ruled the whole world.

Robby and ponna in front of a building in the Tower.

Suresh and Ponna in front of a building in the tower.

Ponna thought that guy in the red is a mannequin.  Bravo!

Thats how close we can get to the guy in the red. (Swiss guard)

Magnificent cannon.

Pathway to the tower.

inside the King's chambers.  Chamber is real.  Furniture is not.

recreated King's sleeping room.  He ate breakfast right next to his bed.

Another view of the fortress.

Sundial near the entrance to the tower of London.

Tower of London.  Doesnt it look like a fort?

Where the hell was this?

Just wanted you to see the paradoxes of British life.

Entrance to the City of Westminster.  Official residence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.  We didnt see her though!

St Paul's Churchyard.  I dont know what the devil is EC4!

An old building in London.

Museum or art gallery.

London Bridge.

On board a river boat on the Thames.

Tower bridge.

Tower bridge II

London eye.

We had lunch in that deli.  Tesco.  Ponna wants to start one in the States.

You guessed it.  The Big-Ben.

Iranian people were protesting near westminster abbey.  Against Ahmadnijead, Prime minister of Iran.

Battle ship.

London Eye semi close up

London eye car.  This is the worlds slowest ferris wheel.  Gives a bird eye view of London.  We didnt go on it.  Children discouraged us.  They were on it before and thought it was too slow and too expensive.

I think this is crown jewels store.  They sell souvenirs etc pertaining to crown jewels.

Near Buckingham Palace.

Near the fence around B.Palace.  There were a million tourists there along with us.

One of the clock towers in London

We were leaving to go on a tour.  This is Acton Town tube station.  Behind Martha Stewart Apprentice poster.

Another of British paradoxes.

Mrs.Masters our B&B hostess.  She is not only reasonable, but extremely resourceful.  A practicing Seventh day Adventist, Mrs.Masters is a haven for all SDAs wanting to visit London.  Samuel Bachiocci stayed there. (I think now he stays with someone else).  Oh we enjoyed all the stories she had to share.

Station Master with "ping pong bat" to guide the trains.

Robby, Abhayah, Sreyah and Ponna at Manchester train station.

On board Virgin Trains' Euston train.

Waiting for the train.  The train on the platform was not of Virgin line.  Its National line.   Below me, Sushil and Sneha (Sushil is my wife Mini's husband, a super guy.  Sneha is their 6yr old brat, uh sorry, daughter.  She is the only 6yr old who watches Doug Batchelor's end time prophecy videos.  Very sweet girl.)
