Restoration, before and after.

My cousin asked me if I could restore an old photograph of her father (my uncle) from world war 2..

Using the clone stamp tool and the spot healing brush tool within Photoshop, and a few other adjustments, I managed to do what I think is a reasonable job, obviously rebuilding the face was the most difficult part, but after about 2 hours I was quite satisfied with the result, even though I feel that I could have maybe done better.

But the main thing is that she was very pleased when I presented her with a print, the next job is to try and find out what colour the uniform was so that I can attempt to colourize it...  All good fun,  :-)

Much more than a reasonable job, excellent is more like it, no wonder your cousin was pleased! If I had seen the repaired version without knowing it's history I wouldn't have known that it had been repaired; his face looks perfect! ... And you even brought out details from the shadows! Great job!

Great job you did there. From the old picture, of course, the face looked pretty hard to restore but final picture came out as good as new. What scanner did you use and the pixel density did you scan the picture?

Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments..
Rahul.. I used an old cheap scanner, "Scanmagic 9636 P" and the pixel density was 600

you may want to do some searching for the blackwatch tartan uniform... ive seen some b&w images showing a very similar embellishment hanging around the waist.

Thank you Paul, I will do that..
