Sigtuna

Willing to take a trip nearby Stockholm, we headed towards Sigtuna on this cloudy Sunday.

Sigtuna is a very quiet small town on the lake Mälaren, founded 1000 years ago. It is said to be the first town in Sweden.

From where we live in Stockholm it's an exactly 1:44h journey, as the search engine on sl.se website sharply states and accurately respects.

The town hall is the smallest in Sweden and was built in 1740

The cemetery in the center is guarded by the ruins of the St. Per church (XIIth century) and the newer Maria's gothic church.

Klockbacken seen from the forest.

At the end of the visit, we went to a pub in the old center, which has a view over the lake, and ordered Kopparkittelns fiskplanka, a fish dish served on a fish form plate and Sigtuna gösfilé, a regular shaped piece of fish served in an ordinary plate alongside 3 boiled potatoes. The latter tastes better in my opinion. :)

Hi Paul, so you are still in Sweden. Sigtuna is such a beautiful town, went there once in the seventies. You have captured the atmosphere so well. Great work

Thank you again. :)
Noe, the place is really exquisite and what strikes you after speding a few hours there is the deep silence felt everywhere. We even took a quick nap on a bench on the lake shore. The 12th picture is taken from that bench. :) Quite a view.

Paul, you did it again.
Now that you have the proper gear to support your vision, it gives me an even greater pleasure to view your shots.
The first is definitely my favorite. I really like the color temperature, it gives a nicely warm feeling of the shot. Did you use manual white balance?
The 10th shot is also very good, I like the perspective a lot. That bench could not have been framed better.
The 11th may seem the best from this series, but the fact that it is so well framed and the color tones are so well defined, not to mention the overall focus, fools the eye and gives the impression of an Photoshop composition. Sometimes "way too good" is the enemy of "perfect".....
The next picture looks like a National Geographic cover. You managed somehow to overcome the disadvantage of your wide lens by properly positioning that pier. A wise decision. The contrast is exceptional too.
Overall, a great work once again!

Doc, thanks for the abundant nice words. You're far too kind, as usual. :)
For pic #1, it's sort of manual set white balance, by selecting "Shade" preset from the camera. This is useful especially on a cloudy day, like the one in question, since most of the light is coming from the blue sky and "Shade" projects a warm feeling on the capture.
Dr.Garibaldi said at 1:12 p.m. on Sep 14, 2007:
Once again Nikon delivers...The "shade" white balance setting shifted all the colors in a proper way, giving such a nice postcard-like result.
Now it looks like you came to know almost all the secrets of your Nikon DSLR since you preferred a preset rather then a manual setting, with such good results. The road to pros is now shorter...
Hope you will come back soon with more quality shots like these.
Paul said at 3:01 p.m. on Sep 14, 2007:
Yeah, the difference between me and a pro is just some "newer magazines". LOL. :))
