From Prague we headed to Berlin (BUUURH-lin, as pronounced by James, our Brittish tour guide, pictured below). Berlin was fascinating... not exactly a beautiful city, but there is so much history and so much to see. We stayed in Hostel Alcatraz in East Berlin (directly below). The tall rectangular statues make up the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. |

The statue of the mother and child is a memorial to those Germans killed during war (any of them, I think). To the right is "Check Point Charlie," where East Berliners would try and sneak into West Berlin. Below is the Tiergarten (Central Park of Berlin) and then the East Side Gallery (the part of the wall that remains up and has been painted by local artists). |

Above we have the Hotel Adlon... the fanciest hotel in all of Berlin, and the site of Wacko Jacko's famous baby dangling. Above to the right is the Brandenberg Gate which used to separate East and West Berlin. The two people that you don't know (except for you dad) are Bas, my dad's work friend who took us out to dinner one night, and our extremely intoxicated waitress. They became friends. |
