2004 Election Protest (history series)

In December of 2004 the presidential election was hotly contested. In many areas, paper trails were non-existent, and exit polls, which historically were highly accurate, did not correspond with the declared winner.  A protest calling for voting reform was staged at capitols in every state.  The photos above are the demonstration at Oregon's capitol in Salem.

Sadly little has changed for the good since 2004. We still have electronic voting machines that are easily manipulated to generate false vote counts, with no accountability. Added to that is the disclosure of a corrupt "Justice" Department that had used its national police powers to intimidate and manipulate the election process.

Look at what's happening in California where there's an attempt to have the state's electoral vote in presidential elections divided according to the percentage of vote rather than winner takes all. Seems fine excepting that if only California and few states do that it will shift the national election in favor of the weaker party in California - the Republican party. You don't see the Republicans calling for dividing the electoral votes in Texas.

I worry about Electronic Voting as well. There's just too many avenues to mischief to occur. Thanks for this tabblo Allan and for raising the critical topic of Election Integrity.

if we didn't place so much power in the hands of a president, the electoral problems wouldn't be such an issue. Move to proportional form of government and you have more representation.
