October 9, 2007 - Grand Staircase Escalante At mile 27 of the Hole-in-the-Rock road there is a left turn-off that takes you to the Dry Fork Trailhead. A short descent gets you to the Dry Fork Narrows and three slot canyons- Peekaboo, Spooky, and Brimstone. The three slots are approximately parallel to each other, with Brimstone a little farther down the Dry Fork wash and more inaccessible on hot days. Peekaboo is arched and pooled near its entrance. Spooky is not for the large framed hiker, very narrow! Brimstone is darker, as if blackened by fire--hence the name? |

Muddy pools and dryfalls were easier to negotiate with a rope near the entrance to Peekaboo |

Stemming to enter or exit the slot is neccessary |
