I've been looking at this photo for a bit now and I can't figure out why It's such a wonderful photo, - more to the point, how did you make it so. It's such an ordinary subject, but the colours, light and shadows are perfectly beautiful. ... I agree with what Pam said about the echoing of the tone and colour of the cats coat, I didn't see it until after I read it though... There's so much I have to learn and this photo has been a learning experience. Thanks Destiny!

Thank you all for this wonderful feedback. This photo has a certain air of dejavu for me. I swear to you I had seen it long before I had the opportunity to shoot it. I'm certainly enjoying the stock world and having some moderate success.

Dar - there was a fair amount of Photoshop that went into this final product. The shadow/light was a blessing of the long evening light waves. It's been a HUGE learning experience for me going into stock photography where almost every photo is retouched or refined in some way before going to sale.

My Photoshop skills are being endlessly touched-up. To summarize, this photo was first converted to b&w and then recolored using a color adjustment layer - this helped to give the photo a deeper texture. I also darkened the grass in the foreground (which is cropped off here but visible in the slideshow mode) and selectively reduced the noise in the fence by using Gaussian blur and masking. And I made the cats eyes 'pop' just a little more than they were naturally - but not so much that they looked unearthly.

Incidentally, this photo has not yet sold but was pleasing to shoot and polish all the same. I've added it to cafe press as a journal if anyone is interested just use the link to click through to the shop.
