Round Lake Library Presents... ANCIENT VIKINGS

On Wednesday, October 17, 2007, Briana presented the second Ancient Civilizations program this season, this time focusing on the Ancient Vikings!  The stations were exciting, with props, games, crafts and foods to sample, all reflecting a time when Vikings ruled the North Atlantic.

With foods to sample like raspberries, blackberries, mead -- AHEM! NO!  Of course not!  Apple cider replaced the mead! --  and bread with horseradish, stone ground mustard and honey, the young archaeologists had much to keep them munching throughout the program.

With miniature warriors fighting a battle frozen in time, an image of the Viking lifestyle became more clear.

Briana made her own viking ship to hang from the ceiling.  Sometimes I wonder who has more fun: the kids in the program or Briana when she's making her props.

A recurring theme in Ancient Civilizations is the game of chess in its various forms.

One of the craft projects involved coloring their own Ancient Viking chessboard so they could take it home to play.

The other craft project involved gluing glass beads to a stick, with each bead representing a letter in their name.

Israel taught the archaeologists about the Viking helmet and sword, and his enthusiasm was contagious.

Marina's food table was quite popular, but not too many of the kids enjoyed the horseradish.  The popularity of the apple cider more than made up for it, though.

Everyone worked very hard to complete their booklets.

The Ancient Civilizations Series has aspects the entire family can enjoy.

At the end of the program, everyone received their goodie bag for doing such a wonderful job.

Way to go, Briana!  Another awesome program from the mind of someone who is as sharp as a Viking sword!
