All Saint's Day

The custom of celebrating saints and martyrs on specific days is an old Christian tradition.

Soon it appeared a need for a day for paying homage to the lesser known "stars" among the saints.

Therefore we have a day in the calendar for "All (the other) Saints", first Saturday in November.

When the summer has past, and the winter is on it’s way,

the dead souls return home and need guidance with light and fires.

This day is quite and peaceful,

an opportunity to remember and reflect

on the loved ones that is no longer with us.

Stockholm, first Saturday in November 2007

very nice, Anna. like the warm hue you are getting with your night shots
Eduardo.affonso said at 6:06 p.m. on Nov 4, 2007:
I'm fond of cemeteries, ANNA, because they are always to still, so perfect for us to medidate, to think of death, of dettachment, of how short and fragile life is. But this one you show us here is completely alive, it's like a celebration of life. Adjectives like astonishing, amazing, wonderful, are so usual on Tabblo World but I just can't create new words to describe the work you did. I'm fascinated.
Cespinel said at 6:37 p.m. on Nov 4, 2007:
You are so fortunate to have so much beauty around you. I'ne seen most of your work and it's awsome. Great work!!
Decoy said at 7:03 p.m. on Nov 4, 2007:
Thank you all for your inspiring words! I'm "surprised" that it is possible to take shots in the night, new to nightphotography as I am. These photos are taken at 1 am, so it was completely dark outside, even though there were some light from the small candels. And some churchlight in a few of the photos. But with some corrections in levels in photoshop you really can make them lookworthy.
And it is a very special day.. earlier in the day when the cementeries are visited by so many people, all with candels and often flowers. If you go later, as I did, it's like a "medidative feast", as you are alone in this huge uplightend "hall".

had to look again, it entrances me...nothing like this cemetary, so rich in history where i live...a fav again :) <wink>

Beautiful tones. You must have a great lens. I've got a "kit" lens so I can understand its problems even stopped down 3 stops. But I don't see a hint of flare or ghost reflections in your images excepting in the last one where it's minor.
Decoy said at 9:18 p.m. on Nov 4, 2007:
I've got a "kitlens" too. With my Nikon D70S came a Nikkor 18-70 1:3, which they told me should be a rather good lens, but I don't know at all. In the last picture I did clone away a green ghoast on the treee, but I haven't cloned anything else in these pictures. On my last tabblo, medieval, I got more of those "spooky" things, as one can see. I cloned away som flares in two of those pictures.. but there are plenty of small flare and ghoast in them I think... hm, I have to look! =)

This gave me chills! Not because I find it creepy or anything, actually the opposite. Here, Halloween, (a take off of on All Hallow's Eve) focuses on the the ghoulish, the darker side of death, ... and the commercial - buy candy give it to the kids. But your All Saints day feels like a loving and peaceful celebration, something which is communicated very nicely with the warmth of your photos!
Paul said at 4:46 a.m. on Nov 5, 2007:
Anna, I suppose you took the pictures in Skogskyrkogården, right?
I have a picture with the the save grave stone with the dove on top, as in your last to the left image. I think this is a pretty strong coincidence, given the fact that there are almost 100000 graves there.

Decoy said at 1:15 p.m. on Nov 5, 2007:
Dar, the traditions to celebrate Halloween is very different. Over here it's quite and familybusiness.
Paul, wouldn't that have been kind of spooky? =) But I have to say I didn't go to Skogskyrkogården - I went to a smaller cemetary. But I guess you saw a spectacular view if you did go there? With high torches as well?
Thank you Anna, Charles, Thierry, Noe and everyone else for looking and commenting! =)
Ania said at 1:46 p.m. on Nov 5, 2007:
Anna, yes, it is so meditative beeing surroundet by all the lights, it is so peaceful.
Tack!
Kram på dig, Anna
Paul said at 2:00 p.m. on Nov 5, 2007:
I wasn't in Skogskyrkogården at that time, but about 2 months ago and in daylight. So I missed quite a show, didn't I? :)
Decoy said at 2:06 p.m. on Nov 5, 2007:
Decoy said at 2:10 p.m. on Nov 5, 2007:
Paul, I think we both missed something, because in Skogskyrkogården (for the first time, and going to be a way to celebrate yearly from now on) they had big torches, so it must have been a spectacular show, as you say! :) You'll have to stay another year? =)
SterlingGray said at 4:11 p.m. on Nov 5, 2007:

Krisu said at 4:25 p.m. on Nov 7, 2007:
I think and feel the same way that Ania does. I can also just stay watching your snaps and enjoy them.Tack för tipserna, Anna! But do you have a watch to take the excact 30sec? (And I think you have a tripod too. Aaa? Det är väl stativ på svenska? Man lär sig nya ord och saker varje dag!) I just keep it open in a "bulp" and have not a faintest idea how long it takes!! Hah! I have Photoshop elements4 but I don't use it very much so far. I think it's kind of difficult. I,learn, some day. Some how! ;) THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL TABBLO again! In Finland we have the same tradition with the candles in cemetaries.
Decoy said at 4:53 p.m. on Nov 7, 2007:
Thanks, Merci and Grazie everyone of you!
Krisu, If I do it the way I described for Ania, the camera is set for x times seconds, so the shutter will be open for how long the camera is set to be open. If I say 20, it will be "open" for lights in 20 seconds, if I adjust to 30 sec the photo will be exposed in 30 sec. If you cant use the camera this way, I would suggest to use a stopclock, and try different times! ;) The time is dependent on the aperture (don't know the exact english word). And yes, I use a tripod (right of you, it's "stativ" in swedish). And I think you should begin to use Photoshop elements, it's not that difficult when you're once in it. I have Photoshop cs2, so I can't teach you though! :)
