What Do You See?

This is Boston's famous Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge and part of the Big Dig. It's been said that its design comes from the Battle of Bunker Hill Memorial, from sail boats representing Boston's relationship to the sea and open books representing the city's abundance of learning institutions.

This photo, taken from near The Garden, shows another perspective and possible influence. It is what it is and you can go to this spot yourself and see the exact same thing. This photo was not "Photoshopped" in any way. What do you see that the architects may or may not have intended?

It is odd that Boston can be called America's most liberal major city and at the same time be one of America's most conservative. It's very much a city of contrasts.

Keep in mind this is a city that still swears that artist Corita Kent intended one of the rainbow stripes on a natural gas tank represent the profile of Communist leader Ho Chi Mihn. Kent herself claimed people were just reading something into the stripe that was not there. The controversy continues to this day.

So what do you see?

Really nice perspective! Great shot. I'm going with Debbie on this, simply because Corita Kent was known for messages of peace and love...and I do see the peace symbol, as well as gridlock,..but I also see a beautiful cable-stayed bridge. Thanks for this great shot!

Indeed I knew Lenny and my husband was very close to him.Lenny did nt know the word "NO" .He would persist to get a "yes" and then he would be off on a next project bringing indeed Peace to our world. Bless Lenny , Peace ( I see) to all , bless the bridge that names after Lenny Zakim a great human being , a great father and a true Peace maker. ( eyes are getting tearing ) ..
