Round Lake Library Presents... ANCIENT MAYA!

On Wednesday, November 14,  Ancient Maya was uncovered at our library!

The young archaeologists were able to sample mango, avocado, papaya, jicama, and tortillas with salsa.

Chef Israel prepared the delicacies and Marina helped hand out the sample platters.

Watch out for venemous snakes!

Trying to understand the Mayan numeric system was challenging enough to make you feel like this guy!    -->

Haab' calendar, so different from our own

Teamwork always helps when working on the activity booklets.

One of the bonus activities involved finding the poison dart frog in the sphagnum moss.

As a special treat, the archaeologists were able to chisel into a rock to uncover the hidden artifacts within.

They sure enjoyed the destruction.  The rock was pounded to dust.

The craft activity for the Ancient Mayans involved painting a face mask.

Mask painting is delicate and artistic work.

Once the activity booklets were completed, Head Archaeologist Briana handed out the goody bags.

Once again, it was proven that learning can be fun!

The lengthy preparations paid off in the form of Young Archaeologist enthusiasm, and despite the dangerous tools Briana wore all evening, she did not harm herself this time!  Success all around!
