anggrunggondok folk festival

anggrunggondok is a village in wonosobo, central java. about 2.5 hours drive from jogjakarta, 1.5 hours ride from magelang and about 30 minutes from parakan, my birth place.

there's a unique tradition held in anggrunggondok. first about folk festival after tobacco harvest. people gather around and invite folk articians to dances. the most fave dances are: jaranan [riding horse dancing] where a healer help the dancers in-trance and another is lengger dance, where a man pretend to be a lady dancer. another ceremony is 'potong rambut gimbal' where the babies with rasta look-alike hair should be cut within special occassion.
