Round Lake Library Presents...THE YOUNG WRITERS CLUB!

On Saturday, November 17, 2007, The Young Writers Club had the final of their monthly meetings for this year.  Each meeting focuses on a different kind of storytelling.  Ann concluded the most recent series by introducing the group to TALL TALES.

With their writing journals and some inspiration provided by Ann, the fun could begin!

The first exercise helped teach the group about parts of speech using the popular game Mad Libs.  This is an activity that always leads to giggles!

Then next activity was a Readers Theater, which the Writers Club really enjoys.  They split up into two groups and were assigned parts from two tall tales: The Legend of Lightning Larry and The Legend of Slappy Hooper.  Each group practiced their lines for a bit and then the performances commenced.

The overwhelming enthusiasm for this activity was apparent as they requested additional parts.  Even the quieter participants blossomed while reading their lines.

You would be astonished at how much talent some of these budding young writers showed in their skills both writing and performing.

I have no doubt that one day these young folks will be successful at their craft and we will sit back and say, "We knew them way back when they came to our library and impressed us all at our programs."

Much passion and intensity went into the practicing and the performing of the Readers Theater pieces, which ended up expanding and involving props.

Narrators and characters alike put on a stellar show.

When the performances were over, there was a snack break with drinks and cookies, followed by a lengthy writing session where each member was able to write their own tall tale.

Wonderful job, Ann!  I hope they remember to credit you in the future when they give acceptance speeches for the many honors these special kids will undoubtedly be awarded.
