Croatia, Adriatic Coast, Dubrovnik, Plitvice

Beautiful colors all melded together.

Regina in the Omish Harbor

You can say that everyplace is interesting that you visit....but Croatia turned out to be 'very interesting' for a number of reasons.  First, the Dolomite Mountains come right up to the shoreline in many places; in the walled city of Dubrovnik the oldest 'pharmacy' in the world still hands out prescriptions; the common denominator of the country it seems is the height of the men and women...most are very tall; ask them about the Serbs...well, on second thought don't.

We rented a car and traveled along the Adriatic Coast & then North to  Plitvice Lake Region, seeing many a village with pockmarked exteriors and gutted houses.  As it turned out, this is where the civil war between the Serbs and the Croats began with a 'single shot'.

We had a great lunch near here.

As you drove North along the Adriatic Coast many times you would  see beautiful little villages and coves tucked away and around every turn was a surprise.  For instance, stopping at a little market to buy crusty bread and cheese, something to drink, and then pick a spot along the way and eat your lunch!

Taking a ferry to a nearby island...many of the tourists were from Eastern European countries. The 1 hour ride was interesting in itself with lots of singing and just enjoying a simple way of life and beauty.

Had dinner at a Restaurant to your right.

There was no question at all about where to have dinner but at this famous Restaurant overlooking the old city of Dubrovnik.  With the blue and amber lights shining on the water...not only was the food (fish) excellent but the scenery was too!
