Le "Madonnelle" sono delle immagini sacre, perlopiu' della Madonna, messe per devozione in alto sugli angoli dei palazzi o anche sulle facciate; alcune erano illuminate dai proprietari delle case, altre a cura dei cittadini o delle autorita'. Questa pratica dura da moltissimi anni per cui le "edicole" rappresentano i vari stili dei secoli passati. A Roma ne sono state contate migliaia.

The "little Madonnas" are sacred images positioneted for devotion at the corner of the buildings or between two windows.For centuries they represented the only light in the streets and the style of the shrines represent many artistic styles. In Rome you can find thousand of them.
