Burg Eltz and Cochem

Moselkern, where Burg Eltz is.

One of my favorite places in Germany is "Burg Eltz", a remarkable castle near the Mosel River.

The castle, shown on the right, was never destroyed and is in astonishing condition.

The castle is about a 45 minute hike from the village of Moselkern, shown on the left.

We didn't get any good pictures from the tour inside the castle, but it is amazing.  I could live there, no problem!

Moselkern is on the banks of the Mosel River, which is a big wine region of Germany.

After hiking to Burg Eltz, we needed a break, so we took the train to the sweet little village of Cochem, which is a tourist town.

There we ate ice cream (including "white wine ice cream", which was GREAT) and drank more wine than we should have!

Too sweet.

Various weird sights:

A "mermaid" ("merman"?).

Don't even THINK of letting your dog poop here.

Caution: Children picking their noses ahead!

If it weren't for the glare on the window, this picture would make a great puzzle!

Jen continues to experiment with her new camera.
