Festivity and Color

Bomb blasts and war against terrorism make Pakistan suffer the worst chaos in its political history, rocking entire nation like a hurricane.  This is most definitely the winter of our discontent.  Amid street protests, baton charges and political arrests, Lahore, the capital of Punjab province hosts Pakistan’s most prestigious and colorful event; World Performing Arts Festival 2007, initiated by Rafi Peer Theater Workshop many years ago. Today it is the largest festival of its kind in South East Asia involving enthusiastic support from international audience as well. “East is east and West is west…And never the twain shall meet”, said Rudyard Kipling, but with Rafi Peer Group’s valiant belief in paving the way for cultural fusion, East and west mix in an intriguing style as the festival kicks off in full swing at magnificent red brick building of Alhamra Cultural Complex with 600 artists participating from 25 countries of the world.

Bhagat Krishan Lal Bhail dance troupe is from Rahimyar Khan. The colors of Cholistani nomads are the highlight of their attractive attire. Gypsy dances performed along desert tunes take every beholder in trance.
