Miss Potter's Garden

Hill Top is now looked after by the National Trust. Photography is not allowed inside the house. Children who visit the place are given The Tale of Tom Kitten and told to compare illustrations in the book with different parts of the house. Many children squealed with delight upon finding the similarities between the pictures and what they saw before them. I learned that Potter was a committed conservationist and owned lots of land (more than 4,000 acres) in the Lake District. She was also famous for breeding Herdwick sheep. According to my tour guide, Potter did not want people to visit her grave after she died so she asked her friend to cremate her and scatter her ashes in an undisclosed location.

Hill Top, a 17th century house located near Sawrey, Cumbria is a must-visit for Beatrix Potter fans. She bought the place in 1905. Her house and garden were featured in many of her children's stories, such as those involving Tom Kitten, Samuel Whiskers and Jemima Puddleduck. One can find honeysuckle, foxgloves, lupins, peonies, and lavender in her garden.  Strawberries, raspberries, currants, gooseberries and rhubarb also grow there.

Thank you, it was cloudy that day (and later rained heavily) so the photos didn't turn out as well as I had hoped.

I love the gate photo best! The pathway photos are also fascinating to me, too, but it's probably because of the symbolic potential, especially the one with the shadow of the fence. Or maybe it's just the way you capture the perspective of distance. Great info blurbs, too!
