The historic town of San Sebastian del Oeste is located in a remote location up on the Sierra Madres. At this moment, it's on UNESCO's tentative list for becoming one of a World Heritage. Discovered in the late 1500s and settled in 1603, this town was one of the main mining centres in the New Spain during the Colonial period. Due to the 1910 military revolution, foreign companies had to move to other areas, abandoned the last mine in 1921, and San Sebastian fell into complete oblivion. |

Main Plaza and the Consistorial, winding alleyways, original stone pavements, plastered mud-brick walls, archways, attics, wooden and tile roofs; all consitute the town's distinctive traits. The southern part of town is on higher ground, offers a panoramic view of building's roofs dating back to 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, most of which are still in good condition. |
