Windblown Sangre de Cristos

Welcome to Colorado's high country!

These pictures were taken on December 15th, 2007 from my mailbox about a half mile from my house. There was a light breeze. But at 14,000 feet there was obviously some wind! We had had several days of snow and it was being rearranged on the peaks.

If you compare the two bottom pictures, I would guess I got to capture an avalanche. The billowing snow in the valley in the bottom one seems a bit much for just a gust of 70 MPH winds.

These look even more dramatic if you click on them for the full sized versions.

Very nice. I've backpacked the Sangre de Cristos (in NM) and they are stunning.

Thanks, all! I sometimes take the beauty around me up here for granted until it smacks me in the eyeballs!

Looks like there is a great photo op today. The webcam shows a lot of snow blowing on the mountains...beautiful.
