Paul Rand, in print

My colleague Ned purchased these at a used book shop. Lo and behold, they belonged to Paul Rand.

His notes, inscription, and misc. mail pieces were inside.

Beautiful vintage imprint

mass communication = mass thinking

unanimity of thought = anonymity of ideas

Highlights on the divine proportion

Mathematics, A Human Endeavor

Notably, also Ned's early math book

Where the envelope fell in the book. (Love that Ned preserved this.)

"The man who speaks with primordial images speaks with a thousand tongues..."

This reminds me of one of my favorite Rand quotes:

Simplicity is not the goal. It is the by-product of a good idea and modest expectations.

In the era of Web 2.0 and hyping the less-is-more approach, let's hope we can get close to what he meant here.

Nice tabblo, jackie

I like the two pics in the middle where the text continues across both.

Why not publish a book with Paul Rand's comments within books from his library?
