Neighborhood Snow

Another snowfall today in Boston, much more than predicted.  It isn't even officially winter yet, and we've had more snow than all last winter.

Done with shoveling, I look up to see that it is quite beautiful.  The snow turns up the contrast between in and out, warm and cold, protected and exposed.

Shapes are exaggerated and emboldened, the crisp air bites at your face and hands, all is familiar yet new.

It looks beautiful with all that white new snow! And the light in #1 is great. We ARE in officially winter, but no snow yet - I miss it, I want a white christmas! =)

Thanks everyone!

These were taken with a Nikon D50. The lighting was just what was available: street lights, though with everything coated in snow, the scene was brighter than you'd expect for after sundown, and it is an urban environment, so there are plenty of streetlights, as you can see. The other key piece of equipment was a tripod, so that I could take as long an exposure as I needed.

If you notice, the fourth photo has red streaks in it: this was a 3-second exposure, with a car moving through the frame (you can also see the effect of its headlights on the bank of snow).

Beautiful. It's always nice to wander around in the snow when no one else is around. The stillness and the beauty of it is wonderful.

Féérique, que du bonheur ! Bravo pour la qualité des lumières et la mise en valeur de l'épaisseur de la neige.
