Revolution vs. Celtic Football Club

On July 19, we made the trip to Gillette Stadium to watch a "friendly" match between the New England Revolution and the Celtic Football Club.  Celtic, based in Scotland, is visiting the States for a series of exhibition matches.

It was my first trip to Gillette Stadium.  Opened for the New England Patriot's 2002-2003 season, the new stadium is a beautiful, state-of-the-art venue.

It was also the first time I've been to a professional soccer match.  I think the Celtic fans outnumbered the Revolution fans.  There were Celtic flags everywhere.

Both sides of the stadium were filled with green-and-white, Celtic jerseys.  When the two teams marched on to the field, the Celtic fans went crazy.

Since it was a night game, the lighting wasn't great for action photography.  I had to increase both the ISO setting and the shutter speed to get these shots.

The results are darker and grainier than I had hoped.  These are some shots from early in the match, before it got too dark.

Oh, the match was good too.  Although the Revolution controlled the  first 45 minutes, there was no score at the half.   Both teams sent in substitures for the second half.  There was still no score until after the 80th minute.

Celtic struck first and the Revolution tied it with a beautiful goal with less than 15 seconds left.  The match ended with a 1-1 draw.

It was a great night out.  We may go back to Gillette for some American Football in the Fall.

This is a great tabblo, Dave. Altough I am not a Celtic fan, I am interested because I come from Celtic's home town! That first shot us excellent and you did well to get good action shots despite the light.
