Scenes from Shantiniketan - Part 1

Shantiniketan is the adopted home of the poet. The once idyllic setting has been taken over by vacation homes and the famous "Poush Mela" has become a behemoth. However, the rural settings that resonated with the poet and his father can be still be found in the nooks and crannies of Shyambati and Phul-danga, residing side by side with the university folks and the Kolkata "babus".

Bengali readers may get a kick out of the name of the house. This belongs to the singer Arghya Sen (see name plate on upper right corner)

I took all the pictures, with the exception of the one below. Chandreyee took this one of me getting a comfortable shave right at home.
