Back to work after the worst few weeks of my life ( I won't go into detail, but trust me on this one), I came out of work today to find another car had slid across the parking lot and right into the back of my car. Maybe it popped out of gear, maybe someone forgot to put on the emergency brake, or maybe it was just a freak combination of an ice patch and bald tires.
Fortunately Pitkin and Antonio were with me (afternoon Starbucks run) so I was able to get out. Nothing stands between these guys and their coffee.
In any case I am not sure why, out of all of the cars in the parking lot, mine was the victim of this bizarre incident. As far as I know I have not done anything to warrant the bad karma following me around these days (of which this is but a very minor example). Not that I am vain enough to believe that the misfortune of others in my life has anything to do with me. But when I see things like the random car torpedo, with its "straw that broke the camel's back" quality, I do start to wonder.
Matty I could REALLY have used one of your "way to go" signs.
****************************************************** Late-breaking addition. Pitkin just sent me these photos. We stopped the sliding by jamming a kid-sized beach chair that happened to be in my trunk under the front wheels. And Matt was kind enough to provide the signage, a tradition dating back to when Tabblo was a half-dozen of us hunkered down at our VC's office. They may know how to make $ but they don't really know how to park. The signs were handy then and I guess they still are. |
