The Wasserkuppe is a high plateau (elevation 950 m or 3100 ft) and the highest peak in the Rhön Mountains within the German state of Hessen. Between the first and second World Wars, great advances in sailplane development were made there. Next to the long tradition of sailplanes the Wasserkuppe has developed to a sport center and weekend centre offering a wide selection of activities. Paragliding as well as Snowkiting is offered by a Paragliding school. In winter the area is used by skiers and snowboarders. We visited the Wasserkuppe last week. |
