Our New Neighbor

Dave opened up the back door to go to the shed and there was our new neighbor waiting to greet us. I am NOT a fan of spiders--even taking these pics kind of creeped me out but he was so big and colorful I just couldn't resist the photo-op. Besides, I keep telling myself that despite his size (he's got to be at least 3" long and his web's about a yard in diameter), he's just a friendly garden spider and his web is quite beautiful. (I can't wait to see it in the morning with dew on it). So, he probably won't be our neighbor for long--it's too much of an inconvenience to not be able to use the back door--but it was nice knowing him. Sort of.

Are you nuts?! OK, I'll admit there is some great color. Have you tried shining a black light on it? Probably too late by now, right? ...or are you keeping 'er as a pet?

Oooh. Cool idea to use the black light. I'll have to see if I can dig one up somewhere. S/he is still there. There's no way I'm going to relocate her. My husband will have to take care of that. Last night he (my husband) caught a bug and threw it on the web. It was both cool and icky to watch. I said maybe we ought to keep her and name her Shelob. But not really.

OOh! This is a big one. We live on the lake so you have to get used to the spiders. I think you did a good job with the pictures.

yes jill this is a banana spider. great tabblo i just love the story along with it, ... maybe this is the difference be a male and female,, i think mine has a bigger butt..
