Attic Panzering

These are photos of the attic pre-construction, right after Brian and I moved all the stuff from the attic down to the dining room.

The first set shows the original finished area.

Dining room storage

This set shows the original unfinished space in the attic.

Right of the door, over Amory's bedroom

The original window in the rear; the old vent for 2nd floor bathroom

Right out the door, the drain/vent stack and the chimney

Along the back wall, over the office

The unfinished space behind the bedroom kneewall

Outside of the corner of the bedroom

The chimney, a peak back out the door to the stairs

The roof above the bedroom; our old aerial antenna

These photos were taken after the demolition and most of the framing was complete, about four days after work started.  All the old electrical is still dangling everywhere.  We hit a lull after this was complete, trying to get the plumber and electricians to come in and get their stuff in.

View from the middle of the stairs into the open sitting area.

View from the top of the stairs through the bedroom wall, into the big closet

You can see into the bedroom through the space where the french doors will go.  Around the old window is the 7.5 ft wide frame where the new picture window is going.

From the sitting area into the bedroom

This was our first design snag.  I was hoping the bathroom door could fit along that same wall that runs along the chimney, but there was no way the door would fit.  That wall now runs perpendicular to the chimney out to the stairs, puts the linen closet in the bathroom, and adds this big dead hallway space to the bathroom.

The same hall as before from the other direction. The linen closet is on the left.

After a few false starts with the plumber and electrician, the contractor's guys decided to start on the new attic stairs in the meantime.  Here are the back of the old stairs after all the old plaster and sheetrock was pulled off.

and the bottom. That's Brian's back...

The electricians finally got started towards the end of the second week of construction.  Here are some shots of some of the fixture locations...

A look at the office and it's 12 outlets (MORE POWER!)

The circuit-breaker box on the chimney wall. I'll probably try to hide it behind a picture after the inspection :)

We had a fold-up ladder installed to allow access to the AC unit that is going above the ceiling

More of the office. You can see a blue box in the lower corner where some of the old wiring had to be spliced.

Another look into the bedroom. Outlets and switches everywhere!

The extra bit of the fold-up ladder

Another view of the office space. It looks much larger with the contractor's gear out of it, and no more wiring dangling everywhere.

The office/bathroom wall. The box on the right will be switches for the office lighting.

The plumber finally appeared at the end of the second week.  After some "discussion", we opened some holes in the kitchen to make it easier to run everything between the attic and the basement.

Hole behind the bad panelling.

The ceiling hole and the top of the wall hole

A good look into the house guts

Closer view into the ceiling.

The new drain connected to the main house drain

The new drain running through Amory's closet

A look up the kitchen hole to the 2nd floor bathtub

The new drainpipe in the attic

We got rid of the bad desk in the kitchen to make space to work.

They also demolished the original attic entrance

I went to B.F. Apolis for a few days.  When I got back, the electrician and plumber had made some progress, and the stairs and windows had undergone some changes.
